Upgrade trap - how can I stay on RC 6.x?

Description

After faithfully upgrading RC for years, I’m finally at hardware limit - server CPU does not support AVX and therefor cannot support MongoDB beyond 4.4… and now mobile app does not work.

This is a simple chat board for a non profit in small community! We love RC and just want to keep using unsupported version; surely this is possible? Can we just enjoy this great tool without upgrading any further?

Server Setup Information

Version - 6.13.1
Apps Engine Version - 1.46.0
Node Version - v14.21.3
MongoDB - 4.4.27 / wiredTiger (oplog Enabled)

In a word no. Either unsupported, or upgrade.

This is due to the requirements of mongo.

It’s been known a long time.

Sorry. Time to get another server.

Thanks for response! I’ve heard it is possible to use unsupported mobile app on Android - is there a version available for download somewhere? I found the RC-Legacy app for android but that is also barking about server-out-of-date. Is there a pre-compiled unsupported app out there that I can download for my users… ? TIA

Not that I can recommend.

Why not do the right thing and upgrade the server?

Ebay, recycler, cheap VPS?

You can do it very cheaply if you’re smart.

That or fork and do it all DIY…

Not against it in principle! Just time and money … for tools that have been working great for years. Thanks for your input though… very much appreciate.

Sometimes you just have to accept it is time to move on.

You don’t ride a horse to work by chance? Or use a ZX81 as your daily computer?

Your kit doesn’t owe you a bean. You have had great bang for buck.

I feel the same about some of my stuff that is about to go… Tough love.

Modern horses also require AVX apparently … :frowning: … guess it’s time to buy a donkey and some Homing pigeons!

Don’t get me wrong, I love RC and I appreciate you taking time to respond to my questions.

Regrettably.

NP. Sorry to be the bearer of sad tidings. Believe me - I am no lover of the continual rush and rapid release schedules. Drives me nuts.

Such is life.
