Any additional Information

At the beginning of a video call I enable microphone and camera.

In the videocall (Jitsi Meet) itself both are off.

VideoCall2

I would expect that both are enabled.

It is in RocketChat Electron 4.11.1 and in Chrome (latest version).

I think off by default is a security setting - most apps do that in 2026 for privacy.

I just tried on mine and it opened into the browser which had previously had the video & mic enabled and it worked out of the box.

Likely you want to look at the app rather than Rocket. - if your browser blocks it then then there is probably not much Rocket can do.

It’s not something in the browser. I tried this out.
I mainly use the Rocketchat Electron version.

A quick search would reveal more about the issue. You really should do more research. This took me all of 3 minutes and again, longer to type the post than find the answer.

Essentially it is privacy related. Both Jitsi and Rocket veer towards privacy by default. That is unlikely to change.

It looks like someone rebuilt the client - that is your only real option.

Then the buttons for the camera and microphone are no longer needed at this point, as they no longer have any effect.

Depends on the client. As I said earlier, it works in a browser.

Take it out if it annoys you. It’s open source. You can build whatever you want.
