We have a self hosted Rocket Chat 4.4.2 with Mongo 5.
We’re trying to upgrade to Mongo 6 since Mongo EOL next month.
When we try to upgrade to 6.10.5, we are asked to pay.
We have 35k users.
What will happen if the Mongo 5 auto upgrades to Mongo 6 and we didn’t upgrade our Rocket Chat?
What is the difference between paying for self hosting vs cloud?
What is the best solution for us? The community version seems to only support 200 users and that will not be enough for us.
They’ll handle your upgrades. But on their schedule, not yours.
CE can potentially support more but needs an awful lot of work. EE makes it much easier.
CE also doesn’t support read receipts, limited push notifications, only basic LDAP/SAML, limited apps etc etc etc
Note the reason you are being forced to pay is because lots of people with massive user bases contributed absolutely nothing to Rocket, and companies can’t just produce free code and survive. The devs need to eat.
The reality of open source software.
Personally I’d contact sales and see what you can negotiate.
If you are not a profit making enterprise you might get some extra help too.
If you want you can contact me here or in open.rocket.chat and I can out you in touch.
