Issue registering Rocket.Chat Cloud Account - Unknown Error & No Password Reset Email

Hello Team,

I am currently setting up a self-hosted Rocket.Chat instance and I am stuck at the “Register Server” step in the Setup Wizard.

I am unable to create a Cloud account or log in to generate an Offline Token. Here are the details of the issue:

1 - Registration Error: When I try to register a new account using the email continuosit@gmail.com, I receive the following error message on cloud.rocket.chat:

“An unknown error occurred (request id: 0b173354-46da-4367-9d07-03932cda5d6e).”

2 - Password Reset Issue: Thinking the account might already exist, I attempted to use the “Forgot Password” feature for the same email address. However, I have not received any password reset emails (I have already checked my Spam/Junk folders).

Could you please check the status of the email continuosit@gmail.com in your system? I need to access the Cloud Console to either register my server or generate an Offline Registration Token to finish my installation.

Thank you,

Joao Paulo

You can’t use a disposable email address eg gmail, hotmail, yahoo etc.

I don’t think that’s the problem, because even using a custom domain email address it still returns an error.

“An unknown error occured (request id: b73f643f-e4c1-4460-b607-81eaed99bcef).”

May well be cached or somesuch.

Dispisable addresses are definitely not permitted.

I don’t know what the problem could be; I’ve tried iOS, Android, incognito mode, different email domains, and it always gives an error when I try to register.

I have the same problem, also in regards to the email if I can’t use normal email then what should I use? i don’t have a custom domain email, I’m hosting the chat on my linux to se how it looks and feels to see i we can use it on our forum instead of chatbox, looking at all of this I doubt we will

The requirement is no disposable addresses. That’s it. Just too many spammers & junk otherwise.

You’ll also need a domain for your server and they are very very cheap.

yes but i need to test it first before I commit to it, i managed to get it running offline but its in read only mode, I understand you have issues with junk and spammers but there are better ways to handle this, I’m not going to use a professional email for registration if I don’t even know if I would like it

As it is open source you can of course build from source and remove the restrictions and test accordingly.

If you want to use a pre-built binary then you have accept their terms, and that’s it.

我告诉你秘诀吧,增强密码复杂度和长度,就是这样,相信我。

Let me tell you the secret: increase the complexity and length of your password. That’s it, trust me.

No it isn’t.

You can’t use disposable addresses eg gmail, hotmail etc.

N. B. I used to work at Rocket….
