Header in channel with leader info and "Chat now" button

Description

If I’m in a channel and someone is set as the leader in the channel, when I scroll up I see a header with the leader’s icon and name and a “Chat now” button (see attached screen shot). When I scroll down, this header goes away. We would like to not see this header, or have a way to disable it.

There seems to be a reference to this issue here, with a note from someone that he thinks it’s been fixed. That is, that it no longer occurs:

However, that was in 2019. I haven’t been able to find any other references to this.

We can’t upgrade to the latest RocketChat at the moment for various reasons, but could someone tell me if the latest version still does this? Thanks!

Server Setup Information

  • Version of Rocket.Chat Server: 6.11.1
  • Operating System:
  • Deployment Method:
  • Number of Running Instances:
  • DB Replicaset Oplog:
  • NodeJS Version: v14.21.3
  • MongoDB Version: 6.0.13 / wiredTiger (oplog Enabled)
  • Proxy:
  • Firewalls involved:

You should be on at least 6.11.3 for your own security.

Please keep up to date.

As far as testing, just spin up a separate test VM and check it. I have at least one running all the time for this.

Thanks. We can’t upgrade right away without some environment-wide testing, but I’ll try to get a testing environment built like you suggested. It was actually another team that implemented Rocket.Chat for us, so we might have to ask them to help. In the meantime, if you would be able to check your VM running the latest version and see if that header is there for you when a leader is assigned to a channel and you scroll up, that would be very helpful. No worries if not, hopefully we’ll have that testing environment available soon.

You are vulnerable to being hacked.

You might want to accelerate (spend $$) getting that done.

Don’t say you weren’t warned.

I would. Quickly.

  1. I never said I used “latest”. I have test VMs for my own circumstances, not yours. I suggested you should do that yourself.
  2. I am happy to offer advice, but if you want my services running around doing your work you can pay for it.
  3. I have better things to do. I live in Valencia. Check the news… You can’t afford me right now.

Yup. Definitely not worried. My servers are properly patched.

Please note. Think carefully about what you write, and the fact that others may be in trying circumstances.

Don’t make demands of people.

If they offer, great. But open source means you need to help yourself.

In case anyone runs into this issue, we noticed that the official documentation for user roles states that this header is supposed to appear for a room leader. See here, under Rocket.Chat user roles, the description for Leader:

https://docs.rocket.chat/docs/roles-in-rocketchat#rocketchat-user-roles

So, this is a feature, not a bug.
