There are several open source speech recognition projects available. In the same way that there are people who cannot see, there are those who cannot hear, voice clips are very commonly used, transcription is a must. Even for users who don’t necessarily want to listen to a one minute recording, it’s easier to just get the rough gist from scanning through a speech-to-text conversion, even with inaccuracies.
