Support with Installation on Plesk Obsidian running CentOS Linux 7.8

Description

I have trialled Rocket.Chat Cloud and it appears to be worth installing on my own server however I am struggling to get it to work.

I have a Virtual Private Server (VPS) with full root access.

The server is running CentOS Linux 7.8.2003 (Core), with my control panel software being Plesk Obsidian v18.0.29_build1800200825.21.

The instructions for installing the Docker image appear to require a number of manual steps at the SSH prompt which im not sure I feel comfortable with as I don’t really understand what the steps will do to my production server.

I do have a domain ready for use, mindmatters.chat, which is already secured with an SSL Cert.

Can I install Rocket.Chat natively using the Docker interface within Plesk?

My experience with Docker is very limited.

I’m guessing I need to install the Mongo Docker Image ( I presume the standard “official” image is okay? ). Presuming that this is correct, is the latest version okay to use?

I presume I then also need to install the Rocket Chat Docker Image, but which one?
Docker Hub or Docker Hub

Once both are installed I presume I then need to map the volumes for each image to local paths.

How do I then get Rocket.Chat to talk to the Mongo Image? Does Mongo require any configuring? I only have experience with MySQL, so have no idea if I need to create any users accounts in Mongo DB?

Any support and help would really be appreciated!

Thank you

Is anyone able to help please?

Are you tied to having CentOS?

I can give you an easy to follow guide for Ubuntu with Plesk.

Hi Tony,

Thank you for coming back to me.

Whilst I could reimage my VPS with Ubuntu, this would require an extensive amount of work and downtime as it is hosting a number of other sites and services.

Is it likely that the process for Ubuntu & Plesk is much different to CentOS & Plesk?

Id be interested to see your guide anyway if at all possible?

Regards

Terry

Hope it’s a powerful VPS running so many things

Anyway I’ll put the guide together for you and you can take a look, give me a couple of hours please.

Here is the guide I use.

Hope it helps

That guide is outdated and not working it seems. (Tried it=failed).

This will help.

Docker is the revommended install method.

Thanks, but no it won’t help.

The link you are referring to does not include documentation about how to install on Plesk control panel.

That’s because it is not a recommended method, and likely won’t be.
