We are running on v0.71 of rocket chat for the current case, and will plan to upgrade.
My question was regarding the smtp auth, as I was able to use the email functionality with Google smtp but not with office365. So, is there any restriction in configuring office365 with rocket chat for the mailing function ?

Please, upgrade. We really can’t help you being that far out of date. If there are issues they will never get fixed.

Possibly - to try and prevent spam they all tend to be quite fussy about authentication. I have a feeling that O365 needs per user authentication so each user mail has to authenticate individually, unless you have a generic server address for them?

Check the O365 requirements.
