Mark as read - user option

Description

Our CTO - and most important user - is frustrated with the way RC marks messages as read. He often gets several messages from users. When he enters a channel, he isn’t always successful getting thru all of the messages in a single session (busy individual). Yet, b/c he has entered then exited the channel and/or direct message, all messages in the same are marked as read. This means he often misses key messages from staff.

Is there a way to prevent marking new messages as read unless

  1. The users marks them as such OR
  2. Only those messages that are actually seen are marked as such

Any input, options or suggestions welcome.

Have you tried the Reply in Thread option?

Their unread is different, and only gets marked as seen when you effectively click on it.

Let me know if this works.

You can also activate email notifications (setting up SMTP should enable it), so you get an email if the user is not connected.

Also, is a good practice to always use the latest version, or at least the latest from the major version (in your case. 3.18.2 as I write)
